Toronto, ON – July 17, 2008: Aecon Group Inc. (TSX: ARE) announced today that its industrial division has entered into a multi-year alliance agreement with Union Gas Limited to complete all construction and upgrades to Union Gas compressor stations across Ontario. Gallagher met with Aecon President and CEO John Beck on Nov. 13 and signed a memorandum of understanding that confirmed that collective agreements will be respected and that the relationship between the union and the company will not change as a result of the sale. “Aecon has always been very proud of our long-standing relationship with Union Gas,” said Jake Berg, President of Aecon`s Industrial Centre of Canada Division. “The signing of this new alliance agreement is a progressive way for Union Gas and Aecon to effectively meet the demand for construction resources in an increasingly resource-constrained environment.” The MOU with Local 793 contains nine specific commitments from Aecon and the union. The extension of Aecon`s previous alliance agreements with Union Gas and Enbridge Gas Distribution, which merged to form Enbridge Gas Inc. in 2018, represents further recurring revenue opportunities for utilities, building on a 20-year relationship with Enbridge. The letter of intent also states that Aecon recognizes Local 793`s occupational safety interests and that the union will continue to provide Aecon with qualified plant engineers. In doing so, the company and the union agreed to “work together to ensure that the federal government`s temporary foreign worker program and internal transfer program are not used after acquisition in a manner contrary to the union security provisions of the collective agreements to which each employer is bound, or that the level of job security of Local 793 members is otherwise decreased.” Aecon Group Inc.

Aecon has also entered into a long-standing alliance agreement with Union Gas regarding its infrastructure division. Aecon Infrastructure installs pipelines, utility lines and pipelines for distribution systems, performs technical pipeline project work, supports the integrity and maintenance of Union Gas` pipeline infrastructure, and installs standard distribution stations. The agreement will ensure the availability of Aecon`s know-how and resources for projects involving Union Gas, as well as opportunities for profitability and continuous improvement. The scope of the agreement includes current and future natural gas compressor projects and may include other station projects, as appropriate. Aecon and the union have agreed that the terms of the LETTER of Intent will be incorporated into the applicable collective agreements between each employer and Local 793 and that the content of the LETTER of Intent will not be used to establish or extend Local 793`s bargaining rights with Aecon affiliates or subsidiaries or between employers. The Darlington Nuclear Generating Station, one of the most powerful nuclear power plants in the world, has produced 20 per cent of Ontario`s electricity since the early 1990s. The redevelopment project will extend Darlington`s operations until 2055. The current scope of work on Spectra Energy`s MSA contract includes construction of its compressor stations and related work on the pipeline facilities of its natural gas transmission system in British Columbia. Work on the four-year MSA, which includes future renewal provisions, has begun and is a recurring revenue contract. The Somerville-Aecon Waterdown to Finch Pipeline joint venture is currently working on the Waterdown to Finch Pipeline project, a proactive measure to ensure a safe and reliable fuel supply. Aecon has assembled one of four AECL skates for the Wolsong tritium disposal facility in Korea. A joint venture, of which Aecon is the main partner, is modernizing about 4.8 kilometers of the highway, building new bridges, realigning 13 curves and widening the highway to four lanes, with central barriers and wider shoulders for cyclists.
